Dahlia Stars

Star Dahlias are so dramatic. I just had to include this Dahlia in my latest botanical series because she screams to be noticed.  I observed many varieties of Dahlia flowers during my trip to Claude Monet’s garden in Giverny, France but this Star Dahlia in shades of Yellow, Peach, Apricot, Light brownish Cream colors caught my attention in a big way.

As with the other paintings in this botanical series I used a natural linen canvas for the surface of the art piece for nostalgic feel in my alcohol ink painting . Also the almost Black fade color at the bottom of the painting is reminiscent of painted backgrounds of still life art I have seen in “old master” paintings. In order to have the Star Dahlia flower stand out in all her brilliance I contrasted the flower in shades of bright Green. Do you have a space on your wall that is crying out for alittle dramatic flare? Does this paint speak to you? Hmm, maybe the flower siren is working her seductive magic.
