Opera Red Dahlia

When I started this series of floral paintings I intended the paintings to be more intuitive, and abstract than the eventual outcome. This is my first painting in a more abstract floral approach. I gravitated to the mix of colors: the light Purples with Pink, and the shockingly contrast center in bright Yellow of the deep Red Opera Dahlia flower.  There were just so many contrasting color combinations I observed during my visit to Claude Monet’s garden in Giverny, France.  I’m sure it was all as  Monet planned for the design of his garden.

As with the other paintings in this botanical series I used a natural linen canvas for the surface of the art piece but the ink colors did not fade but instead pop with glorious intensity. Hope you enjoy this abstract floral painting and it makes you happy.
