Orchid Dahlia

$325.00

I took many photos during my visit to Claude Monet’s garden in Giverny, France; as any flower lover would.  When I came upon the most unusual Dahlia flower called an Orchid Dahlia, I was captivated. It doesn’t look like other Dahlia varieties. It is sparse on petals. The petals are long and curl inward which makes the flower look spindly. It was different and one single bloom on the plant. Yet the flower seemed proud and stood out among all the other beautiful flowers in the garden. Maybe a bit of a metaphor; stand out and be proud to be different.

As with the other paintings in this botanical series I used a natural linen canvas for the surface of the art piece for nostalgic feel in my alcohol ink painting . I gave the background of this painting an Olive Green watery effect in a vertical orientation. It reminds me of vintage silk wallpaper. Maybe even wallpaper that would be in a home during the period of Claud Monet’s life time. Who knows, anyway I hope this painting of a single Orchid Dahlia resinates with you.

8″X8″ alcohol ink on linen canvas framed in contemporary wood frame with natural finish.
