Underwater Abstracts

The Underwater Abstract Series originated with my smaller “Underwater Abstract”painting in 2019. Using only two ink colors- Lime Green and Baja Blue-along with Metallic Gold highlights, I delved into the realms of shading, texture, and fluid motion to evoke the sensation of being beneath the sea. I aimed to create a visual exploration of the sea life and plant life one might encounter while snorkeling just below the ocean’s surface, incorporating organic shapes that transform into elements of marine life.

Inspired by this initial piece, I expanded the concept into a series of underwater abstracts, maintaining the vibrant interplay of the Green, Blue and Gold. In these  works, I explore the shapes and movements of kelp, water currents, and sea creatures. My choice of materials- alcohol ink, isopropyl alcohol on synthetic paper- enhances the fluidity and dynamism of the underwater world.

Each painting is carefully finished with an archival matte spray, mounted on wood panels and coated with clear resin to preserve and accentuate the intricate details. Through this series, I aim to transport viewers into the mesmerizing underwater realm, evoking a sense of movement, wonder, and connection to the ocean.

I hope these pieces bring you as much joy and fascination as I experienced creating them.
